A bit about me

I'm a Full Stack Engineer at ESnet, the Department of Energy's high-performance networking facility operated by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. I architect and maintain database applications and network systems that support scientific research. Over the past decade, I've shipped everything from real-time communication platforms to custom CMS systems and e-commerce solutions, working with teams across the US, South Africa, and beyond. When I'm not coding, I'm usually cooking, tinkering with my car, or experimenting with whatever idea just popped into my head.

Electrical, automation, and digital solutions portal

The challenge: A South African company needed a multilingual web presence that could showcase complex industrial services across electrical, automation, and digital domains, with content available in multiple languages.

What I built: Built a responsive, multi-language portal with smooth animations and dynamic content. Implemented full localization support so the site could reach a broader audience across language barriers.

Les Couleurs Tutors

French tutoring platform for toddlers

The challenge: A tutoring program teaching French to toddlers aged 3-6 through games, songs, dance, and arts-and-crafts needed a website that reflected its playful, educational approach, and had to work in both English and French.

What I built: Created a vibrant, localized website that captures the program's energy. Built-in bilingual support was essential since the core offering is language education.

Sekani Events

Event planning platform with custom CMS

The challenge: An event planning company needed both a public-facing website to showcase their services and an internal content management system with role-based access for their team to manage events, content, and client inquiries.

What I built: Built a full-stack platform with a custom CMS featuring user role management, email notifications via SendGrid, and a MongoDB backend. The public site showcases baby events, corporate events, weddings, and special occasions.

This Portfolio, Versioned

A portfolio that shows its own evolution

The challenge: Most developer portfolios are static snapshots. I wanted mine to tell a story, showing how my skills, design sensibility, and technical choices evolve over time.

What I built: Built a versioned portfolio system where each major iteration lives at its own subdomain (v1.freddymande.dev, v2.freddymande.dev). Powered by Firebase multi-site hosting with separate deploy targets, CI/CD via GitHub Actions, and git tags to freeze each version permanently.
